You may not have heard of Genepax Co Ltd yet but give it a little bit of time and it could one day be a household name.
The Japanese company have developed a car that runs only on water. Furthermore, it emits no carbon dioxide. How about that for an exciting development?
By supplying water and air to the fuel and air electrodes, power is generated. Genepax claim that the system's main feature is its membrane electrode assembly (MEA). This contains a material that can break water down into oxygen and hydrogen by way of a chemical reaction.
Incredibly, any kind of water will get this car running, whether it be from a faucet, river or sea.
If Genepax has its way, it'll be water that we'll be using to fill our car tanks with, not gasoline. One liter of water will keep the car going at a speed of 80km/h for about an hour.
The company believes that the cost of its fuel system could be as low as $5,000 if it is mass produced. It is currently in talks with several Japanese manufacturers in the hope of brokering a deal.
In a world that's becoming ever more desperate for alternative fuel sources, Genepax's exciting invention could prove to be a great leap forward.
