Wireless Energy Transfer Breakthrough
We at Compact Impact like to keep abreast of the latest developments in the world of technology, so when a reporter at Scientific American magazine reported the possibility of wireless energy transfer, we sat up and took notice.
Apparently scientists are in the throes of developing a way to transmit energy from a base station to whatever device requires power.
Photonics researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology are currently trying to find a way to boost the transmitted energy, and they think believe they can find a way. At simulations presented on November 14, 2006 at a meeting of the American Institute of Physics, they managed to achieve an energy transfer rate of tens of watts from a few meters away.
The researchers are continuing to develop this potentially revolutionary piece of technology.
