Ginza is one of the bustling districts with many department stores and
is located in the center of Tokyo. This is the place that new things
and old things exist at the same time. There are many famous long
established stores on Kazutou Street which is located one street over
from Chuo Street. Tempura restaurant Hageten, Japanese restaurant
Rangetsu, Western restaurant Rengatei, and the genuine long standing
cabaret in the blue building and the flashy sign that still remains
with the heated atmosphere of Showa and the high-growth period that
we had.
It has been 77years since it started in Showa 6 (1931.) This place name and the type of a business had changed so many times in these years from a Japanese restaurant to a part time salon. It changed its name to New Tiger when they hired all the ladies who were working at the nearby cabaret Tiger that had closed down. Tiger was a well-known cabaret that writers like Kan Kikuchi and Kahu Nagai used to go to. New tiger is also famous for having the officers visiting the night before that they staged the 2・26 coup. It became a cabaret in late Showa 20’s and then it changed to Shiroi Bara 56years ago in Showa 27 (1952.) The movie Arashi o yobu otoko (Showa 32, 1957) with Yujiro Ishihara was filmed at this location. It is always filled with live music and retro looking gorgeous red velvet couches. The main customers are in their middle ages and older. Some of them visit there every day. The movie Kayoukyokudayo Jinseiha had an opening reception there last year.
There is a large size Japanese map on the outside of the building. They have girls from all over Japan. It makes customers feel more comfortable and relaxed to see girls from their homes. They are all funny and charming. They constantly have 120 girls on the floor out of 250 who are registered. The girls ages are vary from 18 to late 40’s. They also have great food such as rice balls and deep fried pork sandwiches. Two of the rice balls that I ordered were eaten by a girl who I had sit next to me… ha ha ha.
You must see the gorgeous dance show that they have twice a day at 8pm and 10pm on the stage as well as all over the first floor. The professional dancers and some of the girls who work there will be taking part as entertainers in the show. You can even enjoy Karaoke with live band music. You can have a nice view of the live music stage from the second floor. There will be a prize if you win games like paper-rock-scissors and bingo. These games will bond all the customers together. The door charge, food and drinks are all reasonable prices. Unfortunately, they don’t take credit cards, but it is also a good thing if you think about the fact that there are no hidden fees. So, all that included, it is much different than Kyabakura type bars that are very popular in Japan these days. This place is for actual grown-ups. By the way, the floriography of white rose are “pure”, “respect”, and “I am good for you.” It might sound familiar and make you think of the good old days, but it sounds fresh and new to my generation.
