Important Safety Instructions
This phone cannot be used outside of Japan.
Handset usage range
The base unit and the handset need to be within 100m of each other to communicate. Concrete or metal walls may influence the range.
Using multiple phone units
If 2 or more base units are located near each other, pressing the key simultaneously on both units may interfere with the lines. You may also experience noise while on the phone. Handsets may not ring when there is an incoming call. Therefore, it is recommended that you do not use more than one base unit.
Environment
Do not use in the following environment:
-Area where there is obstruction between the base unit and handset.
-Near TV, Radio, Computers, and other electronic devices.
-Near broadcasting stations or where strong radio waves are present.
- Presence of nearby automobile and bicycle traffic may result in noises or disrupted calls.
-Switching on and off of fluorescent lights and circuit breakers may disrupt calls.
-Do not put the handset under running water or under water.
-Do not leave the handset wet.
-Do not place a wet handset on cradle of the base unit.
-If the handset gets wet, wipe with dry cloth immediately.
-Contact with shampoo or other soaps may discolor the handset.

Setting Up
Follow steps 1-3 in order:
1.Stand and extend the antenna.
2.Connect the telephone line cord to the phone jack in the wall and to the base unit.
3.Connect the AC Adaptor to the socket in the back and to a power source.
(Talk, Play, and Answering Machine keys and the indicator on the base unit will flash)
-Until the telephone line is configured, which takes about 30 seconds the phone cannot be used.
(Do not unplug the AC Adaptor during configuration. This may result in malfunction)
-If the keys continue to flash after 30 seconds, press "talk"key twice to turn the "talk" key off.
If you hear “Connect the telephone line”, connect the telephone line while this message is playing. (The message repeats 10 times) If you cannot connect the line while this message is playing, press the “Reset” button after the line is connected to restart configuring.
-AC Adaptor may get warm but this is not a sign of malfunction.
-Use product works with modular connector (6P2C). Do not use 6P4C or 6P6P plugs.
Using ADSL/ISDN Line
Using ASDL
You need to sign up for an ASDL service with a carrier. You will need an ASDL modem and a splitter.
To set up, connect the cord into the phone jack of the splitter.
Depending on the splitter, the line may not be automatically configured.
Contact the carrier.
Using ISDN (INS64)
You need to sign up for ISDN service with a carrier. You will need an ISDN Terminal Adaptor (TA) and a Digital Service Unit. (Some TAs may have a built-in Digital Service Unit)
To set up, connect the cord to the Analog Port of the TA.
Depending on the TA, the line may not be automatically configured. Check for the correct cord to use for the specific Terminal Adaptor model.
Charging the Handset
Charge the handset for at least 14 hours before initial use and after battery change.
1.Open the battery compartment. (Press down the gap area with your thumb and slide in the direction of the arrow.)
2.Insert the battery plug all the way and fit the battery in.
3.Close the cover.
4.Place the handset on the cradle of the base unit to charge. (Charge/Reception indicator will light while charging. The light will remain on after the battery is fully charged. Battery will not be overcharged.
Note:
-Charging time is approx. 14 hours.
-Battery performance:
While in use (talking): approx. 7 hours
Standby: approx. 135 hours
-We recommend that you always place the handset on the cradle after use to ensure that it is always fully charged.
-If you see “Charge Battery” message on the display right after charging the handset for 14 hours, replace with a new battery.
Info:
-If the battery needs charging, “Charge Battery” message will appear on the display. While using the handset, you will hear rapid beeps every 20 seconds. If this happens, charge the handset immediately.
-If you do not plan to use the handset for a long period, it is recommended to remove the battery.
-Programming 10-Key One –Touch dial or One-Touch Dial may use up the battery.
-If the battery is low, the display may become blank for about 10 minutes after placing it back on the charger of the base unit. This is normal.
Changing the Battery
When you remove the battery, the ringer and voice volume will be set to default.
The time display will flash “0:00”, but it will return to normal after you use the handset to make a call.
1.Remove the cover. (Press down the gap area with your thumb and slide in the direction of the arrow.)
2.Change the battery. Insert the new battery plug all the way and fit the battery in.
3.Close the cover.
4.Place the handset on the base unit to charge.
Note:
Only use the battery specified. We are not responsible for malfunction caused by use of other batteries.
Setting the Telephone Line Type
Follow these steps if the auto-configuration does not work, when you change the line type, when you move, or when you cannot make a call.
Using the Line Type switch on the back, set accordingly:
Left: Auto-configuration
Center: Pulse (20PPS)
Right: Tone
(When you select Auto-configuration, you will hear a beep)
Setting the date and time
Setting the date and time allows you to hear this information when checking messages.
1.While line is not in use, press “Extension/Hold” for more than 2 seconds. The current month, date, hour and minute setting will play.
2.Press “Extension/Hold”, then Up or Down (volume control) to select the year.
3.Press “Extension/Hold”, then Up or Down (volume control) to select the month.
4.Press “Extension/Hold”, then Up or Down (volume control) to select the day.
5.Press “Extension/Hold”, then Up or Down (volume control) to select the hour.
6.Press “Extension/Hold’, then Up or Down (volume control) to select the minute.
7.Press “Extension/Hold”. New date and time will be announced.
Note:
To start over, press “Talk” twice.
Receiving Calls with the Base Unit
Use the built-in microphone to talk with the caller. (Speakerphone call) Recommended distance from the microphone is 50cm.
1.When the phone rings, press “Talk”. The “Talk” key will change from flashing to solid light.
2.Speak into the microphone.
3.Press “Talk” to end call. “Talk” key will turn off.
Speakerphone calls are recommended for quiet areas. For smooth communication, speak after the caller has finished talking. Interrupting the caller may interfere with the sound quality.
Note:
To change ringer or speaker volume, see Changing Volume section.
To switch to handset during call, pick up the handset.
You can only receive calls with the base unit since it does not have the number keypad.
Using the Handset to Make and Receive Calls
Making a call
1.Pick up the handset from the base unit. “on” will light up. If the handset is not on the base unit, press “on”
2.Dial
3.Press “off” or place on the base unit to end the call.
Receiving a call
1. Pick up the handset from the base unit. If the handset is not on the base unit, press “on”
2. Press “off” or place on the base unit to end call.
Note:
To change ringer and voice volume, Changing Volume section.
There is no speakerphone feature with the handset.
While the line is use with the handset, the indicator of the base unit will light up red.
Changing Volume
Base unit: ringer and speaker volume can be adjusted
Ringer Volume:
Choose from Off, Soft, Loud, Extra Loud. Default setting is Loud.
1.Press Volume Up or Volume Down while line is free. The ringer at current setting or, if the setting is “Off” 2 rapid beeps will sound.
2.Press Volume Up or Volume Down to adjust. Press down Volume Down for more than 2 seconds to turn the ringer off. You will hear 2 rapid beeps.
Speaker Volume:
For message playback, greeting message and speakerphone, there are 5 volume levels. The default setting is Normal.
To adjust volume, press Volume Up or Volume Down while the speaker is playing.
Note:
The ringer volume maybe adjusted while the phone is ringing, but cannot be set to “Off”.
Handset: Ringer and voice volume can be adjusted
Ringer Volume:

Placing a call on hold
While a call is placed on hold, background music will be played.
Base Unit:
1.While using speakerphone, press “Extension/Hold”. Music will start.
2.To return to the call, press “Extension/Hold” or “Talk”. If switching to a handset, pick up the handset from the base unit cradle. If the handset is not on the cradle, press ”on”.
Handset:
1.While on a call, press “Hold/Extension”. Music will start.
2.Press “off” or return the handset to the base unit cradle.
3.To return to the call, pick up the handset from the cradle. If the handset is not on the cradle, press ”on”. If switching to the base unit, press “Extension/Hold” or “Talk” on the handset.
Note:
If a call is on hold for 5 minutes, the call will automatically be ended.
The background music cannot be customized.
Redialing
The last phone number is stored. This feature is only available on the handset.
1.Press “Redial”. (If the handset is picked up from the cradle, press “off” first)
The last number dialed will appear on the display.
2.Pick up the handset from the cradle or press “on” to start dialing.
Note:
To prevent others from seeing the last number dialed,
1.Press “on”
2.Press any of number key (0-9)
3.Press “off”
To register the last number dialed, follow step 1 of Redialing, then the steps for Storing Frequently Used Numbers.
Using Slow Call
You can slow down the speed of a caller’s voice. This feature is only available on the handset.
Press “Slow/Program”. “Slow” will appear on the display.
To turn off this feature, press “Slow/Program” again.
About Slow Call
-When using this feature, it maybe difficult to hear the caller’s voice depending on the speed at which he/she is talking.
-If there is loud background noise, or the line is not clear, you may hear noise from the handset.
-At the beginning when you are not used to using this feature, or when the caller is talking continuously, you may hear your own voice echoing.
-If you continue to hear your voice echoing after using this feature for sometime, try setting the ADSL/ISDN on.
Storing frequently used numbers
(10-Key One-Touch Dial, One-Touch Dial)
10-Key One-Touch Dial:
You can store up to 10 phone numbers using number keys (0-9).
One-Touch Dial:
You can store up to 3 using “a”, “b”, “c”.
This feature is only available on the handset.
Storing phone numbers:
1.Enter phone number using number keys. Up to 24 digits can be used per one phone number. (Press “off” first if the handset is picked up from the cradle.)
2.Press “Slow/Program”.
3.Select he number key to assign the phone number to. (0-9 for 10-Key One-Touch Dial and “a”, “b” or “c” for One-Touch Dial)
Note:
-To start over or change a stored number, press “off” and repeat the steps.
-To enter pause in the number, press “Redial”. 3 seconds of pause will be added each time you press “Redial”. You must enter at least one digit before entering a pause.
- You cannot add a hyphen.
-Pressing “tone”, pound, and “Redial” will appear on the display as “H”, “ロ“, and “P” respectively.
-Stored number cannot be deleted, but can only be changed.
Calling a stored phone number
1.Press one of the number keys or one of “a”, “b” and “c”.
(Press “off” first if the handset is picked up from the cradle)
2. Press “on” to dial number displayed.
Call between the base unit and handset (Intercom call)
Calling handset with the base unit:

If there is only one handset, base unit will start calling it. If there are more than one, select handset to call:
“Volume Up”= #1,“Volume Down”= #2
“Call Wait/Erase” = #3, “Play” = #4

-If the base unit does not respond for 20 seconds, the call will be automatically cancelled.
To pick up when the handset rings, press “Hold/Extension” or “on”.
If there is an incoming outside call during an intercom call, you will hear the ringer. Press “Extension/Hold” on the base unit to end the intercom call. To receive the outside call with the base unit, press “Talk”. To receive with the handset, press “on” after it starts ringing.
Press “Extension/Hold” to end call.
“Press “off” or return to cradle to end call.
Calling base unit with the handset:

-If the base unit does not respond for 20 seconds, the call will be automatically cancelled.

If there is an incoming call during the call, you will hear the ringer. Press “Extension/Hold” on the base unit to end the intercom call. To pick up with the base unit, press “Talk”. To pick up with the handset, press “on” after its ringer goes on.
Press “Extension/Hold” to end call.
“Press “off” or return to cradle to end call.
Note:
Intercom call cannot be used when the handset is on the cradle.
Greeting Message
You can choose a pre-recorded message or create a personal greeting.
To select a greeting:
1.While the line is not in use, press “Answering Machine”. The key will light up and the greeting message will play.
2.Press “Answering Machine” while the message is playing to select a message to use. (The message will play in the order of personal greeting, if you have created one, and then the pre-recorded message)
Note:
-If the voicemail recording time is set to “Auto” or “30 seconds”, the pre-recorded greeting will be “ Please record your message after the beep”.
-If it is set to “Greeting only”, the pre-recorded greeting will be “Please call again later.”
-Pre-recorded greeting cannot be erased.
Creating a personal greeting:
1.While the line is not is use, press “Answering Machine” for more than 2 seconds.
2.You will hear 2 rapid beeps, then “please record your message”, followed by 2 long beeps. Start recording into the microphone.
3.Press “Answering Machine” to end recording. You will hear one long beep, then “message recorded”.
4.To listen to the greeting message press “Answering Machine”. If you do not want to store the greeting, press “Answering Machine” again after it finishes playing.
Note:
-To cancel and restart recording, erase the message first.
-To erase the greeting message:
1.Press “Call Wait/Erase” while pressing “Answering Machine”.
2.When “Answering Machine” key flashes, press “Call Wait/Erase”.
-To erase the greeting message after listening to it:
1.Press “Call Wait/Erase” while your message is playing.
2.When “Answering Machine” key flashes, press “Call Wait/Erase” again. The message will be erased and the pre-recorded message will start playing.
If you pressed “Call Wait/Erase” by mistake, press “Talk” twice while “Answering Machine” is flashing.
-Pre-recorded message will play automatically when the customized greeting recording is too long.
Listening to messages
“Play” key will be lit when there are voicemail messages. When all messages are erased, the key will turn off.
To listen to the messages, press “Play” while the line is not used.
Note:
-To stop playing, press “Talk” twice.
-To skip to the next message, press “Play”
-Message will stop playing when there is an incoming call.
Erasing Messages
You can erase all messages at once, or selectively.
To erase all messages:
1.Press “Play” while pressing “Answering Machine”.
2.Press “Answering Machine” again.
To erase a message one by one, press “Answering Machine” twice while the message is playing. The message will be erased and skip to the next message.
Screening calls
When the Answering Machine is on, you can hear the caller’s voice before taking the call.
-To take the call, press “Talk” or pick up the handset from the cradle. If the handset is not on the cradle, press “on”.
-To set the Answering Machine on while the phone is ringing, press “Answering Machine”.
Changing the recording time
Select the recording time per message from “Auto”, “30 seconds”, and “Greeting only”. Default setting is “Auto”.
Use the Recording Time Switch on the bottom of the base unit:
Left: Auto
Center: 30 seconds
Right: Greeting only
Note:
Auto: Maximum recording time is 5 minutes. If the caller does not speak for 10 seconds, the recording will end automatically.
30 Seconds: Recording time is 30 seconds. Regardless of the actual message time, the recording continues for 30 seconds.
Greeting only: Message will not be recorded.
-The background noise and line quality may affect the message recording function. Also, the function may not work if the phone is a PBX.
Connecting to PBX
It may take time to dial out.
To make outside calls with the handset:
1.Pick up the handset from the cradle or press “on” if it is already off the base unit.
2.Press a number key to dial out (e.g. 0 or 9).
3.Press “Redial” to enter pause until line is connected. (one pause = 3 seconds)
4.When you hear a dial tone, enter phone number.
Note:
-Depending on the PBX or home telephone systems, the operation may vary. The talk time also may not be displayed.
-“P” will appear on the display when you press “Redial”
About Caller ID
Caller ID shows the phone number of the caller on the display.
You must be enrolled in a caller ID service with your carrier.
To set Caller ID on or off:
Using the Caller ID switch on the bottom of the base unit, select on or off.
Center: On
Left: Off
Note:
If this product is connected to other communication devices or is sharing a line with another phone, caller ID may not function properly.
If you do not have Caller ID service, set the switch to “off”.
